Sundeck Majestic Motor Yacht In the mythical Galapagos Islands, what challenges does the unique wildlife face and how are humans helping to conserve it?
One of the world’s most important foundations working for the benefit of the Galapagos Islands is the Galapagos Conservation Trust (GCT).
Founded in 1995, this registered U.K. charity supports both scientific research and environmental education.

Its Board of Trustees includes prominent scientists and descendants of Charles Darwin, the founder of the theory of evolution.

GCT is part of a network of Friends of the Galapagos that encompasses organizations from Canada, the U.S., New Zealand and over a half dozen different European nations.Without the fundraising efforts of GCT, many conservation projects undertaken by the Charles Darwin Research Station, the national park and other entities in the Enchanted Isles could not be accomplished. These include the giant tortoise and land iguana breeding programs, and most recently, saving the mangrove finch from extinction.

How can you help Galapagos Conservation Trust with the important work it does – and get an insider’s view of the islands’ conservation?

One way is to join the exclusive, eight-day cruise to the western part of the archipelago aboard the Majestic yacht, sponsored by Galapagos Travel Center. The expedition is scheduled for November 24 to December 1, 2014.

Accompanying you will be Galapagos Conservation Trust’s chief executive Ian Dunn and marine biologist Professor Nicholas Owens.

During this excursion, you’ll have many opportunities to marvel at Galapagos’ unique landscapes and wildlife. You’ll hike to the peak of Bartholomew Island. On Isabela, you’ll snorkel with the Galapagos penguins – the only species of this flightless bird found north of the equator. The rugged landscape and active volcano of neighboring Fernandina Island will astound you. Another wildlife encounter will be strolling amongst the Galapagos sea lions on Lobos Island.

The host ship, Majestic is one of the newest yachts in Galapagos. It was specially designed for cruising through these isles. Large windows afford fantastic views of the seascape. Sitting areas inside and out are perfect places to share observations with fellow passengers and guides. After a day of exploring, relax in the Jacuzzi up on the sundeck. At night, rest peacefully in one of the nine spacious double cabins equipped with private bathroom, hot water and air conditioning.
