Galapagos Conservation Trust

There are several ways to get involved with saving and protecting Galapagos. There are periodic raffles, gifts for sale online, and photography competitions. The GCT regularly accepts volunteers to assist with projects, and monetary donations are greatly appreciated and carefully utilized. In this, the 15th year since the Galapagos first started receiving support, Richard Robinson, chairman of the Galapagos Trust, issued the 15th Anniversary Appeal. With this appeal, GCT hopes to raise $184,000 (€150,000) which will go towards funding the fifteen points which GCT has identified as the most vital for protecting this fragile ecosystem.

The projects are as follows:

Island Restoration: 1. Project Floreana, 2. Tackling invasive species 3. Species-specific projects 4. Supporting cutting-edge research 5. Promoting Galapagos as a world model.

Climate Change Preparation and Adaptations: 1. Monitoring indicator-species 2. Marine management 3. Waste and resource management 4. Building a first class data bank/knowledge resource 5. Minimizing GCT's own environmental impact.

Social Issue Response: 1. Regulating development 2. Engaging the local community 3. Creating sustainable employment 4. Promoting responsible tourism 5. Educating about Galapagos in the UK.
