Some of which preserve their indigenous roots, and some others marked by the influence of the Spanish and Catholic culture.<br \/>\nBelow you will find a short introduction to the most celebrated festivities in Ecuador. Which are really worth being a part of, not only because of the culture involved but also for the food and friendliness of Ecuadorians.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.galapagosislands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/carnaval.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"263\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Carnival in Ecuador<\/h2>\n<p>This festival is celebrated mainly in Catholic countries. In Ecuador, it is celebrated with great popular joy in which dances and troupes predominate in many cities.<br \/>\nOne of the most famous carnivals is celebrated in the city of Guaranda, located in the center of the inter-Andean region of Ecuador.<br \/>\nIn Ambato, the celebration is called the Festival of Flowers and Fruits, in which cultural groups predominate, allegorical cars decorated with flowers and fruits of the region.<br \/>\nOn the Ecuadorian coast, the celebration is also joined by the cultural festivities of the area, such as Esmeraldas, where international festivals of Afro-American cultures are held in places like Calle 8 and the Las Palmas spa.<br \/>\nThis festival is very well received by the entire population, so much so that in each of the cities beautiful and cultural shows are offered.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.galapagosislands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Untitled-3.jpg\" alt=\"festivities in ecuador\" width=\"525\" height=\"328\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Inti Raymi\u200b<\/h2>\n<p><em>Inti Raymi<\/em> is a festivity of the Andes region to honor the Inti, the Inca sun god. It is celebrated on June 21st, during the solstice. <b>This day the sun is at its highest point of the year on the equator<\/b>. This festivity related directly to the harvest-time.<br \/>\nTraditionally, food like beans, corn, potatoes, fruits, and the typical <em>chicha<\/em> drink are shared on <em>Inti Raymi. <\/em>Part of the food is saved until the end of feasting when it\u2019s returned to mother earth, called <em>Pacha Mama<\/em>, as a token of gratitude for the great harvest, and to encourage her to begin a new, strong agricultural circle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.galapagosislands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/day-of-the-dead.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"328\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>D\u00eda de los Difuntos (Day of the Dead)\u200b<\/h2>\n<p>The <em>D\u00eda de los Difuntos,<\/em> Day of the Dead, celebrated on November 2nd. When is believed that the dead return for just one night from the afterworld to visit their beloved ones.<br \/>\nCemeteries are open all night long, as families get together to sing, talk, drink and even eat with their departed.<br \/>\nIf you want to have a try on the traditional food for this day, ask for <em>Guaguas<\/em> <em>de<\/em> <em>Pan<\/em>, which is white, sweet buns shaped like a baby, and <em>Colada<\/em> <em>Morada<\/em>, which is a hot drink made of black maize, various fruits, and spices<em>. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14583\" src=\"https:\/\/www.galapagosislands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/a_old_woman_using_a_tipical_dress_from_Ecuador.png\" alt=\"a_old_woman_using_a_tipical_dress_from_Ecuador.\" width=\"1456\" height=\"816\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Pase del ni\u00f1o (Christmas time)\u200b<\/h2>\n<p>The<em> Pase del ni\u00f1o<\/em> is celebrated between the months of December and February inclusive. During this time, you will see many colorful processions, which are organized in honor of the birth of Jesus Christ. Some of the participants are dress up as biblical characters. Even the smallest kids take part in the celebration. Due to globalization, you can even see some Santa Clauses participating.<br \/>\nWhile watching the processions, you can enjoy the typical food for these days, which are <em>bu\u00f1uelos<\/em>, balls consisting out of fried dough, and <em>champuz<\/em>, a viscous, warm drink, which is made from flour, honey, and fruits.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.galapagosislands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/monigotes.jpg\" alt=\"festivities in ecuador\" width=\"525\" height=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Photo by: Daniel Lofredo Rota<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>A\u00f1os viejos (New Year\u2019s Eve Tradition)\u200b<\/h2>\n<p>New Year\u2019s Eve, symbolically defeat all the negative experiences of the endding year and welcoming the New Year. <em>Monigotes<\/em>, dolls made out of newspaper and wood shavings, are burnt on this day.<br \/>\n<b>If you want to get rid of some negative experiences of the old year, you can just buy an \u201cA\u00f1o Viejo\u201d doll as well as a mask and burn it at midnight.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The monigote tradition is highly important and celebrated all over Ecuador. These dolls can have different sizes, from just a few centimeters to over three meters.<br \/>\nThe characterization deals with political, cultural, social and ecological subjects in a critical, but humorous way.<br \/>\nIn most cities, you will find each house, or even neighborhood exhibiting their own, creative <em>monigote<\/em>, which turns a walk thru the cities even more interesting than usual.<br \/>\nFurther celebrations and awesome fireworks will be launched everywhere.<br \/>\nIt is no surprise to see streets blocked by men dressed as women, which represent it\u2019s the widow of the ending year, begging for any coin, their interpretation may include dancing and flirting with car drivers.<\/p>\n<p>Every time of the year has its own and unique festivities.
