Galapagos Sharks

The Galapagos Islands is one of the few remaining places in the world where the hammerhead shark can be spotted gathering together in large school of several hundred.

The main purpose of their scalloped front edge of their hammer-shaped head is to improve vision and to provide a larger area for the electroreceptors which the sharks employ for hunting their preys.

The Galapagos Sea Lion

Of all the sea animals perhaps sea lions are the most playful and the Galapagos Sea Lion is no exception. If you wanted to throw an imaginary animal party then sea lions would be close to top of your guest list; they are just so much fun!

Of all the animals that create a Galapagos memory mosaic for visitors often the Galapagos Sea Lion will paint the most vivid memories. Being unafraid of us and naturally curious they’ll approach you first underwater and are totally accepting of your presence on land.

The Galapagos Albatross

What do Miami Vice, Fleetwood Mac, and the original film “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” have in common? Answer – they have all made reference to the albatross. The Galapagos Albatross or Waved Albatross, as it is also known, is one of the 21 species of albatross, an animal with such mythical allure that it has crossed over into popular culture hundreds of times.

The Galapagos Penguin

Seriously! Penguins on the equator in the Galapagos? Pull the other one — next you’ll be telling me about camels that live in Antarctica!  But, as bizarre as it seems there is a Galapagos Penguin that happily swims and munches down on a fish smorgasbord here in the western isles of the Galapagos.
