Small and fast, usually are easier to see on the west side of the archipelago, although some colonies are known to live around Santiago Island. They are incredible fast swimmers and definitely a highlight of a Galapagos snorkeling session.
Tortoises
A true example of evolutionary wonder, the islands are home to more than a dozen subspecies of giant tortoises. Seeing them roaming freely in their natural habitat is reason enough to call your trip a success. At breeding centers, you can also learn about conservation efforts and observe them at every stage of life, including baby giant tortoises.
