Itinerary

Our guide will pick you from your hotel around 08:00 am; from Quito two hours driving is located Otavalo town (2530mts.), in the northern Andean Region; this town is famous for its indigenous market, weaving, ancestral culture and its privileged natural surroundings. On the way to our destination we will make a stop at some places to take the picture of the beautiful landscapes local. Afterward our next point is Otavalo Indian Market, the most famous indigenous fair in the country; although the market has greater activity on Saturdays (also animal trade-market), it is open every day with an impressive variety of handcrafts, tapestries and weavings made by indigenous people of the surrounding villages.

We will continue to Cotacachi Village, a small town well known for its leather goods where you´ll have time for shopping. Our last place is Cuicocha Lake sits at an altitude of 3200 meters above sea level and is 3 kilometers wide. It is a caldera and a crater lake, and is estimated to have been formed more than 3000 years ago as the result of a huge eruption. Today, the volcano is dormant. The name “Cuicocha” comes from the Quechua language and can be translated as “Guinea Pig Lake” in English. The reason for this name is that the biggest island in the middle of the lake somewhat resembles a guinea pig in shape. Finally we will return to Quito.
